In contrast, the IOC is unsure about the performance effects of testosterone. This is how seriously testosterone use is taken by Wada. Even if you can prove it was accidental and unintentional, you are still sanctioned and stripped of medals and prize money. If even trace amounts of testosterone or a diuretic used to mask it is found in your system, you are sanctioned with very few questions asked. They then changed the requirement in June 2022 to below 2.5 nmol/L for 24 months. Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) used to allow transgender women to compete with biological women if their testosterone was below 5 nmol/L for 12 months. World Athletics and World Aquatics chose to ban transgender women from competing with biological women on the international stage if they have gone through male puberty. Its framework for transgender and differences in sexual development athletes published in Nov 2021 leaves it up to individual sports to decide for themselves. Where does the sporting world stand on whether transgender women can compete meaningfully against biological women? The International Olympic Committee has side-stepped the question. ![]()
